Cold Feet, Strong Kicks: Ignite's Empower Her Taekwondo Experience

On a cold, wet Sunday morning, a group of enthusiastic women gathered at Latrobe Memorial Hall for Ignite’s latest event, hosted by Lisa-Marie from Dauntless Taekwondo.
Some of the group had already started their day with a swim at the Bluff, proving that a little weather wasn’t going to stand in the way of trying something new.
Lisa-Marie was joined by several members of the Dauntless Taekwondo community, including two impressive young black belts who helped guide and encourage us throughout the session. Their confidence, skill and willingness to share their knowledge was inspiring to watch.
The morning was filled with laughter, learning and more than a few attempts at techniques that looked much easier when Lisa-Marie and the team demonstrated them.
What stood out most was the way everyone got behind each other. Whether it was your first time trying something like this, or you arrived with a little more confidence, everyone was encouraged to give it a go.
The highlight for many was the chance to break a board. What initially looked impossible quickly became a lesson in commitment and self-belief. There was plenty of cheering, a few surprised faces and a real sense of achievement as boards snapped and confidence grew.
What started as a cold, wet morning with cold feet and a few nervous laughs ended with women breaking boards, celebrating each other’s successes and discovering they were capable of more than they thought.
At Ignite, we love creating moments where women can connect, try something new and step a little outside their comfort zones in a way that feels welcoming and fun. This event was a wonderful reminder that confidence doesn’t always grow in the places you expect. Sometimes it happens barefoot on a hall floor, trying a new kick while a room full of women cheers you on.
